1)  I don’t start doodling in DoD until I have a mental image of what I’m going to draw. I try to think outside the box, but this time I knew the prompt referred to THIS fanvid, so it was pretty obvious what I had to do.2) I usually fill in a bg colour - everyone uses plain white, so a colour bg helps set a mood or make your pic stand out, even if you don’t put in an actual  background.3) I usually block in the pose next. I keep it thinner than I intend the final pic to be; bare bones because I’m going to have to colour OVER it and I don’t want white sticking out from under my finished lines. 4) I add some background stuff - it’s trickier to doodle in a bg after your focal characters are already done, so I put in what I can now.5) I start colouring over the blocked out silhouette, adding basic features and flat colours, but not adding too much detail yet.6) I add shadows for depth - cloth folds are a good way of indicating posture and movement. 7)When I’m more or less satisfied with the main char, I zoom in (like this) for important detail like his facial features and record cutiemark symbol, and for text. If I haven’t already started lagging yet, this pretty much will guarantee that I’ll start lagging now - Lots of little individual strokes on text and details seem to make it lag more. Zoom in is BLURRY, but worth it for the smaller, more finickity details. DoD is unforgiving, and my lines rarely appear exactly where my cursor indicates that they should - zooming in helps minimalise the fluff-upable zone and ensures I get it at least close to where I intended.8) Next I step away and grab a cuppa tea. When I come back, I look to see what, if anything, is missing and if it’s worth adding any new stuff. Here, I discovered I’d forgotten the shadow behind his legs, and also his freckles. I made a few small detail changes.9) Lastly, I hover over the ‘submit’ button fearfully, reluctant to post. I stall and go look at tumblr like a coward… and then I remind myself for the umpteenth  time that it’s just DoD and I should stop worrying …and I SLAM THE SUBMIT BUTTON. AHHHHH!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!IdiditIdiditOhmygoodgravyhelp! Phew… 10) Then I wait expectantly for homestuck hate comments.

DoodleOrDie spam. The photoset didn’t have room for one more, so I cut out my implied stridercest tanglebuddies. Most of these are pretty old. I’ve been pretty occupied lately and just haven’t gotten around to posting them, so now there’s a huge pile of backlog. I went to Coventry to see the Japan play Honduras in olympic footie. *resists urge to get my babble on about* Leaving the house at all is a big deal for me so, yeah, this has pretty much had me distracted by nervous panic for the weeks/days leading up to it.

DNA Davesprite, sleeping dragon lusus and pm are my faves this time.

I have a small question about DoD. Since I see you are doing great drawigs there I'd like to know if you ever had problems with all lines slowing down and getting kind of wobbly or if you know a way to fix this? I have this problem all the time and drawing is not much fun that way :(

Yes! Frequently! I tolerate the heck out of it because I love DoD, but it can be frustrating if you’ve gotten half way through a pic you’re pleased with, and then suddenly the lag kicks in, all "LOLOLOL no more smooth lines for you! This picture will now take three times as long to complete! You’re welcome!". It’s thoroughly iccy having to to wait for a line I’ve drawn to just...appear, long after I’ve made the stroke! =/

I don’t know a guaranteed way to fix it, but I do have a theory you’re welcomed to try. It’s a superstition-like theory, but I think it’s made things smoother for me. So take it with a pinch of salt, as it’s currently unproven. I think lag relates to the number of individual strokes you’ve made. I find that if I do as much of the picture as I can without taking the pen from the canvas to minimize the stroke count, it lags less. The more lines I put on a picture, the more it seems to lag. I don’t think it’s time, just stroke count. Again, this is just a theory. Learn to draw more with less. Thanks, good luck! I hope that helped.

My 3rd DoodleOrDie.com Homestuck picspam. This is clearly becoming a thing.

I love it when people get the description right, but don’t actually mention Homestuck or the characters. More people should do this. It would be good for DoD.

About the second one: I dunno if the rest of the world plays "What time is it, Mr fox", but over here, it’s an old fashioned childrens playground game. The first thing I thought of when I read the prompt was “…Mr fox!”. I can’t hear “What time is it?” without thinking "…Mr Fox?" The second thing was Dave:Knight of Time. Yeah, I’m fixated. So anyway, now you know why Dave has a fox tail. The end. Also, psst, if you didn’t notice the hands of the clock-planet: Hammertime. Also, also, the foreground clock was supposed to read ‘Now, then, soonER, later’. Oops. Also, Squarewave, I forgot your fingers on one hand. 2xOops combo.

It’s dandiliciously cool running into people I recognise from tumblr on DoD! *highfives you guys* Hope I see ya on the same chain as me again some time!

Time for another DoodleOrDie spam. My favourite is the ==> one. Four out of these six chains died =/

I swear to Grilled Cheesus, I had no idea about the Statue of Liberty being in Calliope’s update before I drew ‘A very weird fanfic’. I just thought, 'what would be a weird silhouette to stick in the background'. I drew the Eiffel tower first, then erased it because it looked like an electricity pylon *snerk*. Sorry France.

Also, Part 2 is here now.

So a few days ago I started getting occasional anon hate messages for drawing Homestuck on DoD and ‘ruining’ the game. I’ve been ignoring them, they’re not a problem. Some are even quite rib ticking actually! I rarely answer ‘asks’ here at all, so I see no need to defend myself to these belligerent haters, buuuut I’m also seeing an increased amount for fandom hate on DoD itself, and now also in the Doodle or Die tags of tumblr. It’s one thing when people send me hate, but when all the Homestuck fans on DoD are putting up with this, I figured I should offer them some tips on how to play without getting themselves all in a tither. I may yet come to regret this.
I know there’s more to say on the matter, including reprimanding one or two homestuck fans too, but this is part one, there is more to come… if I make time. For now though, I’m gonna toddle off and doodle, tattybye~

Bunch of dubious 'Doodle or Die' pics.  The angel Dave scribble was on an awesome chain; DoD has some really spiffy folks on it XD

I cheated and added the letter ‘a’ to the ‘rap is crap’ fill afterwards, on account of missing it out in the actual doodle.

I didn’t get to work on any askrequests yesterday. Yesterday was a big, unpleasent day for me which I’d been dreading for about a week prior irl. It was made better by some nice messages I got here on Tumblr =3 And I did however get three DoD’s done in between panicking, so it’s not all bad. But now it’s over, and I’m safe for another 6 months, so back to working on asks now! Woot! <3

Okay, so I’ve been working on one of my asks, and DISTACTION, DoD hapened. I’m starting to think this might become a common occurrence.  But today was a good day for it apparently! Firstly, I can’t stop laughing at Rainbow Dash’s description/answer for my John/battlefield pic XD Perfect! Then, the same thread in which I drew that pic also spawned a Pistol Pony Rodeo by yuggoth! <3 http://doodleordie.com/c/8f2JfU-UY#7

Then I meant to stop, but it gave me ‘magical space pepper’ and I couldn’t resist a quick magic dust Gam. The pen/cursor started to freeze up as I was drawing his face dangit >< Does that happen to any other DoD users? But my Homestuck DoD experience got better! undyingUmbrage  answered one of my descriptions! It was beautiful! Thank you uu! I’m so lucky <3

PERFECTION

uu, I’m inspired now! I’m gonna go back to working on my ask pic. Toodles~

*edit* I forgot to add, the uu awesomeness was by HoMcMuffins.

Okay, I maaaaay have gotten a bit over enthusiastic about drawing on Doodle or Die yesterday. I was there a lot. And I managed to turn every single prompt into a Homestuck art *coolshades*.

I like the three-pic-photoset layout on tumblr and didn’t want to break it by uploading all six DoD doodles, so I’ll post the worst three here instead:

lol this is awful XD

Contraband!

It’s Karkalicious.

And I just noticed I spelt my username wrong. I will forever be insecureiillustrator on DoD. Two i’s. TWO. Dangit.

Morning tumblr! I got about 4 hours sleep last night @_@ I woke up all excited about drawing and couldn’t get back to sleep, but it seems I can’t seem to get my art on because my current EriRox panel is awful. I decided to step away from it and do some tumblrin’ and found a post about Doodle Or Die  so I went to check it out. How does one draw ‘eating bark on a tree’? I made these there and I thought I’d share.

In the EriFef one, the follow-up comment thingy I got sounds like the troll-movie title for the picture XD

Back to Eri<>Rox now! Toodles~

*edit* Lol, the progress of the EriFef doodle topic. Superhero transvestite? Yup. http://doodleordie.com/c/52b0Rz1sY
